Genealogical Institute Classes Registration forms are available in the WHRS Library or by telephone request at 216-229-7887. Call for current class selection. The following are a sample of classes given in the past.
Genealogy 101This class is for persons new to tracing their roots. Topics: getting organized, research process, charts & forms, home sources, interview, source citation, brief introduction to preservation, Internet, and WRHS Library. Fee: $10.00 (a late fee applies, see registration form).
Genealogy 102Got the basics? It's time to learn about a variety of records. Topics: vital records, cemetery and funeral home records, and an introduction to census records as well as additional Internet resources. Bring a filled in pedigree chart. Time will be spent in the Library researching with the assistance of experienced volunteers.
HONING YOUR SKILLS
Each of the following classes consists of a lecture, followed by research time in the Library for applying new strategies learned in the class. Topics: Locating original documents, web searching techniques, connecting with others, evaluating websites, etc. Some knowledge of Internet searching is helpful.
Brick-Wall Research StrategiesThis hands-on class consists of a lecture and a review of your personal brick-wall problem by another researcher.
